Everybody knows Frozen Bubble.
Here's the begining of a network mode.
This is not yet finished, but you can already try it.
Now, it's only working for 2 players games, but in the future the game will be possible with more than 2 players.
The server is already able to deal with 2 players and more, but my current problem is in the original game display.
So I only use the original 2 players mode game display of Frozen Bubble, and I add the network stuff.
New version : Frozen-Bubble server
After a mail talk, the Frozen Bubble's author suggested me to make a server in order to accept more than 2 players in a networked game.
So I started with knotree's code a Frozen Bubble server.
I'm a beginner in Perl, I take a knotree's C project to make the server.
This server is now working, and the client (a modified frozen-bubble version 1.0.0) too.
Now you can normally play with a server on an ADSL link (128 Kbit for upload is more than enough), and maybe you can play with less upload bandwith, please report me your experiences.
Many thanks to dams, for the first and the many other tests we do to have a working version of this network mode.
This is still in developement, please report me bugs.
When restart a new game, sometimes the game is restarted twice.
If you quit the game, the server has to be restarted.
Server is binding on port 9876 by default, you have to manualy change the source to change the listening port.
Version 0.0.3 (April 2003)
distribute frozen-bubble-server and (before a validation by gc) frozen-bubble-client in rpm.
client uses menu gfx by ayo, from logarno's cvs.
Version 0.0.2 (March 2003)
Fisrt version with the server, with the client based on FB 1.0.0.
Game is possible between 2 people on ADSL 512k/128k.
Version 0.0.1 (April 2002)
First version of Frozen Bubble Network Mode, based on FB 0.9.2.
Only playable on a LAN, and took too much bandwith.
Other frozen-bubble network mode project
- Arnaud Desmond (aka logarno) has also started to code a Network Mode for Frozen Bubble, have a look on his cvs ! Thanks to him and his cvs, I get the nice menu gfx made by ayo
- Frozen Bubble peer to peer is a fork of the classic puzzle clone Frozen Bubble aiming to add a full 2 players network play. The project is still in the early stages, no files have been released yet. Check the Savannah project page for latest updates or look at the CVS.
